Artist’s
Statement
I design and hand hook rugs for the floor and wall. I was born on the Gaspe but grew up on Vancouver Island so it's not surprising that natural elements and humour are recurring themes in my work. The rug hooking technique I use is a traditional folk art popular in eastern Canada. My contemporary style of hand hooked rugs embraces its spirit and traditions but the subject matter, designs, and sense of colour make my work uniquely west coast. The works incorporate a range of materials from hand dyed wool fabrics to metal and silk ribbon hand hooked into a linen backing. Ms. Sirois-Silver's work was selected for the “Cultural Olympiad: Art of Craft” and “Contemporary Craft in British Columbia: Excellence within Diversity”.
