Artist’s Statement

"As an art jeweler, I work like a sculptor. I make 'sculptures to wear'. By wearing a sculpture, letting it touch your skin or attaching it to your clothes, you create a more intimate and personal relationship with the object. In the current collection, I use reflections of human forms and landscapes. Starting from a 2-dimensional sheet of metal or wax, I transform feelings and thoughts into 3-dimensional forms. During the process, I constantly add and remove elements to create multiple layers of light and dark .Using 24k gold, oxidized silver, white silver, metal on metal, I strive to present images of strength and sensitivity: brooches, rings, cuff links, key chains and pendants to nourish your soul."

Iris Algom was born in Haifa, Israel. She studied fine arts in Los Angeles, Boston and New York. She then moved to Europe where she continued her career focusing on design in various arts  including fashion, flower design and hat design and making. In the early 1990s, she designed and worked for the renowned Mitzi Lorentz Company in London, UK.

In 1994, she moved to Amsterdam and found her destination in jewelry taking classes and courses from various jewelers in Europe, USA and most recently, Canada. Today Iris lives and works in Vancouver (Object Design), Calgary (Triangle Gallery), Edmonton (Alberta Craft Council Gallery), Montreal (Galerie Noel Gyomarc'h) and Seattle (Pacini Lubel Gallery). She was recently invited by KLIMT02, a European website representing art jewelers, to show her works online.
