Artist’s
Statement
Since
moving to British Columbia in 1995, I've looked to the ocean for
inspiration. Every year I pack up food and water and spend at
least
two weeks exploring the wilderness somewhere along the Pacific coast as
far north as Haida Gwaii and south to Tofino. This coastline has
brought out imager for several series of sculptural work.
Over the past ten years I have worked on designing carved porcelain.
Ever changing tidal sands and the repetitive sound of waves rolling
onto the shores inspire a repeat pattern that I carve into the surface
of this work.
In
2007, my husband and I moved to Hornby Island where we enjoy a quiet
rural life. The ocean continues to provide the sensory stimulus for my
work. I kayak, walk on the beach and listen to the roar of the sea
lions all winter long.
