Taught by her mother to knit, embroider and sew, handcrafting has always been a part of Amanda’s life. This extended to designing jewelry in the last 4 years. Her work focuses around an interest in wire, metal and fibre, with influences from her parents’ Scottish garden, the natural world and her son’s crayon box. Her main collection of jewelry comprises wire crochet (cuffs, bracelets, necklaces and collars) incorporating artistic or silver wire with glass, semi-precious gemstones and other elements such as chainmaille, artclay and metalwork. In the flotsam series natural and synthetic fibres are felted within the mesh for beads to ‘nest’ in. in are also combined. Gentlemen are not forgotten either; her husband’s suggestion inspired a range of cufflinks where individual gemstones or glass tablets are wired like a tiny gift into a sterling chain setting. Amanda teaches wire crochet classes and welcomes enquiries for workshops. Work can be viewed at the following venues;
