Artist’s Bio
Yutal Jewelry Fusion, is the name of a family workshop managed by Diane & Ehud. Diane a qualified goldsmith and Ehud, a goldsmith whose family had been practicing the traditional Yemenite Filigree art for eight generations, set up a studio and soon developed their own special style. Their creative design, inspired by diverse artistic currents: European Art Deco, Moroccan hammered metal and Yemenite traditional filigree technique bears their very personal stamp of imagination and originality. “When we prepare a new collection, initially we exchange ideas, a process we call “thinking out loud”. We then move on to the second stage, which is the actual ‘building” of the product. Sometimes a jewel will require a partial wax model, while another part of it has to be done in filigree-work, or metal cutouts or engraving or embossing, depending on the character we want to give the jewel we are building. There was a time when we created our collection under Art-Deco style inspiration, clean, sober lines and neat, shining, polished finish. Later on we were inspired by “ethnic” motifs and put together a collection in that spirit. We adopted certain instruments, tools such as stamping tools and chisels which we acquired from artisans in a Moroccan market - the very same tools the traditional craftsmen use for embossing the copper-trays and utensils they manufacture. All our jewellery is hand-crafted: soldering, stone-setting, inserting, final polishing or burnishing. Certain pieces include components that have to be molded and cast which is part of the production process. The materials used are gold, silver, semi-precious stones , glass , leather and silk. |
