Sid Samphire

Artist’s Bio

Sid Samphire is currently working with mid range stoneware clay fired in reduction to cone 6. The clay is usually grogged and coil and slab techniques are used to form the clay. He enjoys the organic and spontaneous quality of clay. Objects develop their own idiosyncrasies not only through the artist's intent but also through the methods of production. Working three dimensionally is also appealing.

The physical character and expressiveness of clay objects interests him more than the production of functional pottery. Ideas stem from various sources: the materials being used, visual elements like form and texture, natural forms including the human figure and architecture.
