Artist’s Bio
I took my first basket
course in 1993 after I moved to Salt Spring.
Over the years I have taken many basket courses from local and
internationally renowned teachers.
I work with willow, cedar, bark, and a wide variety of other plant
materials. To be able to forage in the garden or on the roadsides and
make something practical and sculptural with what I have found is
enormously pleasing. The materials are gifts from nature and I strive
to create something that reflects the beauty of nature. I also use
unconventional materials such as kelp, electrical wire, and metals.
Experimenting with different materials, techniques, shapes, and weaves
appeals to me. I like the fact that new meaning is given to these
materials and their inherent qualities aren’t compromised.
