MICHAEL SURMAN

Artists' Bios

Michael trained in Birmingham England as a silversmith starting in 1977. He found employment in Canada as a silversmith in Toronto working in industry and for himself.

He moved to Salt Spring Island in 1992 and worked on commissions for individuals and larger organizations, with notable commissions being the Queen's Plate and the Triple Crown trophies.

Restlessness working in a studio for so many years, led him to educate himself in gardening and finding work as an arborist tree climber. But silversmithing was never ignored and he continued to accept commissions.

His work is a combination of traditional technique and playful contemporary interpretation.
