Cynthia Lyman

Artist’s Bio

Cynthia Lyman is a sculptor and painter. She grew up in southern Idaho and immigrated to Canada, where she has lived on the West Coast for the last twenty years.

Cynthia has degrees in anthropology and art and has worked part time as an advisor in the Faculty of Education at UBC.

Her interests include hiking, birding, classical guitar, writing, and reading large amounts of fiction.

Cynthia creates her birds from paper, wire, metal and reclaimed materials. She collects wire, fabric, button, jewelry, metal, electronic components, old typewriters, sewing machines and all sorts of other materials. She takes these objects apart and sews, wires and bolts them back together in the form of birds. Some represent local species she has been inspired by and while others just seem to fashion themselves out of bits and pieces that suggest avian features.
