Heather Specken

Artist’s Bio

Heather began her fibre arts career at the age of six when she began making little clothes for her poor bedraggled kitten. By the age of eight she was knitting for her favorite doll and when she was 13 she was making her own school clothes.

Her spinning career began after buying a couple of Angora goats in the late '70s. Dyeing and felting soon followed. By the middle of the '80s she was weaving using her own hand dyed and handspun yarns. Funnily enough she would rather weave, spin, felt or dye than cook or clean. Strange…

Heather has taken fibre art courses in Canada and USA, as well as entering competitions which have awarded her ribbons.

She is a member of both the Kalamalka, and Greater Vancouver Weavers’ and Spinners' guilds.

"Weaving can be a very precise craft, but it allows for a lot of imagination of color exploration. Because of this I love it and relish learning new techniques".
