DOREEN MARLOR

Artists' Bios

I am mainly self taught but influenced by training and work in other fields – dance, choreography, and costume design, knitted garments and hand painted silk clothing for the retail market. Previous work with clay has transferred to polymer clay sculpting. I have studied figurative art construction techniques through classes with Adele Sciortino, Arley Berryhill, Annie Wahl, and Marilyn Halcomb. I have also attended two large conferences for classes, lectures and demonstrations on design and technique for Art Dolls, plus studied many books.

I have always loved making things, especially using my own designs and producing one-of-a-kind items. In 2005 I retired and began to explore my artistic side once again after some years in the business world. To my great delight I found and joined a group of Art Doll artists and then the Vancouver Guild of Fibre Arts. The connections made through these groups have led me on a wonderful journey including figurative sculpture, wool crochet felting, paper arts – and even a paper cocktail hat. It is always exciting to take my visions through the various challenges to reach the final form.
