Debra Sloan

Artist’s Bio


Debra Sloan graduated with honours in the Three-Dimensional Programme from the Emily Carr Institute of Art & Design in 1982. She then designed and built a studio in Vancouver and began working as a full time potter and sculptor.

Sloan has worked with various techniques like throwing, carving, slab, coiling, pinching, sculpting, scrafitto, slip trailing, feathering, reduction and oxidation firing, raku, repousee, relief, press moulding, drawing, inlay, mixed media, burnishing and lustres. Currently she is handbuilding, either slab or pinched work, using dry slips as a painted surface.

Her sources of inspiration comes from observing people, friends and family, Bach, opera and country and western music, as well as old pottery of any period.
