Bios
Setsuko was interested in fashion design in her childhood and even made clothes when she was in kindergarten. Her dream came true when she joined an apparel company as a fashion designer after graduating from a fashion institute in Japan.
However, after working in this field for 8 years her interests shifted toward textile design.
Setsuko lived in New York for two and a half years where she took some art courses. Upon her return to Japan, she started work as a textile designer.
When Setsuko moved to Canada for her husband’s career, she wanted to express herself in some form of art. She started making art pieces using Japanese antique cloth.
When she visited Japan 2006, a friend introduced her to felting. She fell in love with it immediately and brought several different colours of wool for the work. Currently she is making hats, scarves, bags and wall hangings, enjoying colour coordination and warmth of the material.
Setsuko uses wool from both Canada and Japan for felting. She also uses silk organdy to create a touch of transparency and knitting yarn for decorations. She tries to emphasize a touch of hand-made and originality on her work.
