Artists'
Bios
Camilla Ballance is a native of the U.K. now living in Vancouver. Her work is typically finely detailed, with bold colours and a twist of humour. Primarily, she is a painter, and whether it is the abundant Myrtle with her almost overwhelming bunch of flowers and a bluebird nesting in her hair, or Rest Hill with the mischievous fox leading the hounds a merry chase, Camilla’s paintings are both fanciful and insightful. She has exhibited in both Europe and North America.
“When I was very young growing up in England we had some building done at our house. I discovered the soil where we lived was full of clay. I made animals out of the clay and then I put them in the oven (we had an Aga) to bake. Most of my creations would become crumbled dirt only to be discovered later by someone else at the bottom of the oven.
Fortunately these days I have advanced from using mud for my creatures to artist’s self hardening clay.”
Camilla studied at Heatherleys School of Art and Camberwell School of Art in London.
