Board of Directors Bios


Jane Kenyon, President (4th year of 2nd term)

Jane Kenyon is a West Vancouver textile artist who has been working full-time at her craft for the past 15 years. Her past board experience includes serving on the Bowen Island Arts Council and the Association of Northwest Weavers. She has served as a juror for the CCBC in the capacity of textile specialist. Jane was appointed to the Board in February 2005. She served as Secretary, chaired the Gallery Committee and Awards Committee, and participated in the Exec./HR/Admin.  She became President of the Association in March 2007.

Ron MacKenzie, Vice-President (3rd year of 2nd term)

Ron has been on boards of not-for-profit agencies in the health field, and ininternational charity work. He previously had been an executive of three BC biotechnology firms that he co-founded. He offers an extensive management background to CCBC, building on a broad interest in crafts, and the relationships between craft and community.  Ron served as Treasurer in 2006 and Vice President in 2007.

Lorne Patterson, Treasurer (2nd year of 1st term)

Lorne has blended the creative with the practical throughout his professional life. A Certified General Accountant with a degree in Graphic Communications from Ryerson University he has an extensive management background in print, graphic design, and finance. He also brings with him broad experience in marketing, business/strategic planning, and communications. Lorne has his own consulting business Patterson & Associates, and served on the board of the Canadian Printing and Imaging Association and the BC Printing and Imaging Association.

Deb Dumka, Secretary (4th year of 2nd term)

Deb Dumka is a practising craftsperson living on an island in the Strait of Georgia. Her distant background in electrical engineering, and her more current Textile Studies at the Anna Templeton Centre in St. John’s, Newfoundland, shapes her work, grown from a life long love of functional fabric things. She has been part of community boards for many years, primarily dealing with local issues in public education. Deb was appointed to the Board in February 2005. She chairs the Membership Committee and serves as the CCBC representative on the Board of the Canadian Crafts Federation since 2005.

Ros Aylmer (1st year of 1st term)

Rosalind is a textile artist, and feels her work in this field connects her to women's work through different times and cultures. She creates art to wear garments which she hopes give both the artist and the wearer an opportunity to make a statement.

Rosalind and her husband ran a Vancouver audio visual production house for 25 years. She subsequently taught the advanced level Textiles Program at Capilano College, and has given workshops throughout the Pacific Northwest. She has held many executive positions with the Vancouver Guild of Fibre Arts, and her works have been exhibited in galleries throughout North America. She is one of the founders of FibreEssence Gallery, and most recently was part of the Association’s Craft Year 2007 Committee.

Celia Pickles (2nd year of 1st term)

Celia Pickles is a graduate of both the textile program at Capilano College and the fine arts program at Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design.  She creates collages, collagraphs and intaglio printing.  Her home on Vancouver’s North Shore allows her to explore both her love of colour and her environment.  She collects found objects to create her garlands and wreaths.  She is involved in various community endeavours, organizing shows and fundraising.  Celia is a member of the Craft Year 2007 Committee and Gallery Committee.

Chi Cheng Lee (4th year of 2nd term)

After attending Parsons School of Design, Chi worked as a studio jewellery artist, creating one-of-a-kind and limited edition art jewellery for over 20 years while living in New York, Hong Kong and now in North Vancouver. Chi's past careers have been in commercial jewellery design and production manufacturing, marketing, event planning, and retail merchandising and sales of educational toys. Chi has been involved with various non-profit groups and was appointed to the CCBC Board in February 2005. She has chaired the CCBC Education Committee since 2005.

Leslie McGuffin (2nd year of 1st term)

After a career in law publishing, Leslie enrolled in the Capilano College IDEA Program, a three-year full-time certificate program in graphic design and illustration. Since graduating in 2004, she has worked as a graphic designer for UBC Public Affairs and for her own design firm, POMPOM design in West Vancouver. She also writes a weekly community newspaper column, The Road Rules, and illustrates and paints on commission and for juried exhibitions.

Penny Parry (2nd year of 1st term)

Penny is a visual artist with a long work history as a psychologist and youth worker with children, youth and families in the community. She has been a tireless advocate for children and youth in Vancouver and throughout the province. Now retired, she continues that work on a volunteer basis. She has served on many non-for-profit boards and committees focused on youth, the arts and social justice issues.

Brigitte Rice (4th year of 2nd term)

Brigitte Rice is a textile artisan creating machine-knitted wearable art.  She was appointed to the CCBC Board in February 2005 and participated in the Fundraising and Surprise Packages 2005 & 06 Committees.  Brigitte is co-ordinating the planning of 2007 Year of Craft/Année des metiers d’art with Kathryn O’Regan as Co-Chair of the Craft Year Committee.

Sid Samphire (4th year of 2nd term)

Sid was a secondary school art teacher. He was educated in England and taught there before moving to BC. He also managed two teacher exchange assignments in Australia while teaching in Delta. Since his retirement, he has been able to pursue his involvement in working with clay. His interests are more sculptural than functional. Sid has experience working with community organizations such as Crescent Beach Community Services and White Rock and District Arts Council. He was appointed to the Board in March 2005 and has participated on the Education Committee since 2005.

David Steiner (3rd year of 2nd term)

David has served as a Board member of the Volunteer Association of the Vancouver Art Gallery, the Vancouver Opera Guild (VOG) and Music in the Morning (MITM). Currently, he is Chair of Publicity for VOG and Vice-President, and Acquisitions Chair of the Fine Wine Committee for MITM. At CCBC, he has served on the Gallery Committee and on the Fundraising Committee. Prior to completion of the Fundraising Management programme at BCIT, he worked in Finance, Pacific Division as Officer, Accounting for Canada Post.
